Hotel Andaluz in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has earned LEED Gold certification. “The hotel underwent a $30 million renovation in 2009 with an eye on sustainability,” says owner Gary Goodman. “At the top of our priority list was long-term sustainability and good environmental stewardship.”
As such, the property implemented a series of green initiatives, including solar-heated water, high-performance windows, fluorescent and LED lighting, and a state-of-the-art energy management system. The hotel also has reduced its water usage over 45 percent. Meanwhile, a comprehensive recycling program is in place that recycles cardboard, paper, plastic, and metal. In addition, all food waste is composted.
