San Francisco firm Tesser designed the newest prototype store for Noah’s New York Bagels in Oakland, California’s Temescal Plaza. This is the first concept store for the brand in nearly 20 years with plans to roll it out throughout California.
Stainless steel, brushed brass, and wood finishes dress the contemporary space while Noah’s signature blue and white subway tiles celebrate its New York heritage. “Our team blended old school authenticity in new school ways to make Noah’s a cool space and build loyalty among younger customers,” said Tré Musco, chief creative officer at Tesser. The Temescal prototype is the first new design to include a baking theater with visible ovens through glass windows so customers can see Noah’s bakers in action.
Tesser employed a variety of messaging and images in an homage to New York, including graphics that depict the Chrysler Building in New York in a mirror image with the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco. In addition to the new tea/coffee bar seating, the 2,300-square-foot store boasts a larger dining room and versatile seating options that include a leather banquette and smaller tables. It also features herringbone walnut floors and fire-clay handglazed tiles that were made in the Bay Area. Orange display tables have custom designs with a bagel detail inset.
