Following a redesign from 555 International, Gemini Bistro has returned to Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood rebranded simply as Gemini. The 2,800-square-foot eatery continues to honor the spirit of the neighborhood with its modern upgrades while also reflecting a rustic, retro ambiance.
The restaurant’s black and white façade informed the high contrast of creamy plaster walls against black stained millwork. Wainscoting and custom cabinetry rest upon the existing hardwood floors, salvaged and lightened to their original splendor. The ceiling received meticulous attention in order to seamlessly incorporate acoustic treatments between its exposed oak beams.
Bar shelving is suspended on brushed, nickel tube framing and illuminated to showcase the large island bar’s new central location in the space. The quartzite bartop features warm gray veining that complements the surrounding custom, white oak butcher block tabletops. Booths and banquettes add efficiency to the interior, whose skewed angles establish unique furniture arrangements. Large, custom bronze mirrors are angled along Gemini’s south wall over large bar-height booths.
