Oxford Hotels & Resorts has announced the launch of its 13th Chicago property with the debut of the Hotel Essex in the city’s South Loop. Formerly the Essex Inn, the transformed Michigan Avenue landmark received a multimillion-dollar modernization courtesy of local design practice The Gettys Group.
In addition to the restored glass and steel façade, the structure also retains its iconic Essex Inn rooftop signage to pay homage to its history. The property’s midcentury roots are also honored across the sophisticated interiors, which amplify elegance with authentic materials and unexpected notes of color. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of nearby Grant Park and Lake Michigan as well. King and double configurations span the hotel’s 274 accommodations. Hotel Essex’s amenities include meeting spaces and a fitness center, while F&B options include the Grant Park Bistro on the ground floor and the dual-level lounge SX Sky Bar, which is poised to open onsite later this month.
