The Hilton Brooklyn New York has opened in the borough’s downtown Boerum Hill neighborhood. The hotel occupies a 1,200-foot, two-block-long rope factory from the 1800s—the largest of its kind in the U.S. producing rope for the city’s shipbuilding industry before a major fire in 1841—which now operates as a 19-story mixed-use complex. The property’s 196 guestrooms are spread across the site’s first six floors.
New York-based Stonehill & Taylor has restored the factory with a design honoring its heritage. Custom guestroom wallpaper depicts imagery of the original structure, while carpeting in the corridors features a rope pattern.
Stonehill & Taylor also designed onsite restaurant and bar Black Walnut from Brooklyn chef Rob Newton. Named for the American hardwood tree, the restaurant features a canopy of ropes and metallic sculptures capturing Brooklyn’s cartography.
Additional hotel amenities include flexible event space, a business center, grab-and-go pantry, and 24-hour fitness center.
