First constructed in 1909, the Free Methodist Publishing House in Chicago has been transformed into an intimate property near the West Loop. The 11-room Publishing House Bed and Breakfast has received its facelift from locally based Nushu Architecture and Vero Design + Build with Siren Betty Design behind the interiors.
A sundrenched communal room with a grand piano, kitchen, and lounge welcomes guests. High ceilings, exposed brick walls, and refinished wood floors further evoke the building’s past with midcentury furnishings adding a modern touch. A custom large, double-sided fireplace in poured concrete dresses the living room, while the onsite kitchen is designed with a stone island, walnut shelving, shaker-style cabinets, and hexagonal porcelain floor tiles. An avian-themed mural by Japanese street artist Hiroyasu Tsuri adorns the stairwell. Guestrooms feature an Art Deco-style mirror with banana leaf wallpaper.
