London-based architecture practice Michaelis Boyd has designed a new collection of luxury residences for the opulent Sugar Beach resort in St. Lucia. Known as the Beachfront Collection, the new designs are crafted in collaboration with local architect Yiming Ho to mirror the vernacular of the island through a more contemporary lens. An additional fleet of custom villas are slated to join the new residences at a later date.
Perched 20 feet above sea level and accessible via suspended timber walkways, each of the properties are wrapped with timber decks equipped with expansive lounge areas and infinity pools. Beachfront Collection guests are afforded access to a private dining area as well as a wet bar and gazebo set against the backdrop of the resort’s tropical foliage. Moveable, wooden louver screens and shutters adorn each structure for defense against the elements, while untreated greenheart timber cladding is finished in a silver-gray tone. Lush gardens envelop bedrooms, with ground floor rooms opening to views of the Pitons. Master bedrooms are accessed via concrete staircases, and feature walnut four poster beds and bathrooms equipped with large standalone baths, luxe marbles, natural stone, and tadelak walls.
Contemporary interiors enjoy abundant natural light throughout the largely double-height living areas. The warm ambiance is accented with bespoke chandeliers that illuminate gray stone floors and dark walnut joinery. A mix of cushioned, wicker seating comprises colonial-style armchairs and carved, woodblock tables populate the interiors beneath exposed steel beams and against warm tones of Cyprus joists. Light coral stone renders also grace the walls. A bespoke, handmade dining table composed of two large timber pieces is also installed in each living and dining room.
