Housed within the historic former home of the Finnish Literature Society, the Hotel St. George is set to debut in Helsinki during the first quarter of 2018. Originally designed by Finnish architect Onni Tarjanne, the 107,600-square-foot property will be transformed with furniture and artwork curated by creative director Mirkku Killberg.
The Hotel St. George will house 148 guestrooms and five suites, as well as public venues including a wine room, poetry room, and winter garden. F&B options will include the Restaurant Andrea along with the deli and coffee shop concept St. George Bakery & Bar. The integrated wellness concept Care encompassing outdoor exercise, seasonal massage treatments, meditation sessions, and detoxification programs. The spa will feature a pool, treatment rooms, and multiple saunas.
A street-facing gallery will debut onsite as well, hosting works including a large-scale feather light dragon sculpture constructed with bamboo and white silk by Chinese contemporary artist Ai Weiwei. Graphic artwork from Finnish artists, including Juhana Blomstedt, Lars-Gunnar Nordström, and Ernst Mether-Borgström, will also be displayed.
