Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) has completed the design of the Great Scotland Yard Hotel in London. The first UK-based outpost in Hyatt’s Unbound Collection, the 152-room luxury outpost occupies the site of the former Metropolitan Police headquarters, Ministry of Defense and a palatial residence once home to Scottish royalty, which all three date back to 1820s.
The revamp of the landmark property recalls a country estate ripe with references to its storied past through an exquisitely sculpted interior. Two reception desks composed of antique luggage anchor the sunken entry lounge, which provides access to various social spaces. The interiors are infused with Edwardian-inspired hues and patterns paired with unexpected bursts of color that inject vitality into the atmosphere. The Yard serves as the centerpiece of F&B options and recalls a comfortable countryside retreat with barreled ceilings, vintage lamps, and millwork from Northern Ireland. Inspired by the Imperial hotel in Delhi, the cozy onsite eatery Parlour evokes warmth through a classic colonial lens, while the hotel’s upscale whiskey club Sibín spans three different spaces lined with copper-leafed wood floors and a ceiling feature that comprises 1,935 bottles. The 40 Elephants, a comfortable bar and lounge, shines out with a striking glass chandelier that serves as its focal point.
The accommodations are adorned with warm, neutral tones along with bespoke wall coverings and carpeting with a classic appeal. Witty nods to London police are included in the form of a mustache motif, while wardrobes are concealed behind bookcase-inspired facades.
