The Celebrity Edge luxury cruise liner has embarked on its maiden voyage in style thanks to Parisian design practice Jouin Manku and London designer Kelly Hoppen. Inspired by the Golden Age of travel, the design is reminiscent of a luxe boutique hotel from a bygone era. British architect Tom Wright, known for Dubai’s Burj al-Arab, is responsible for the ship’s design, which reveals the Magic Carpet, a platform that slides between the decks.
Jouin Manku is behind the Grand Plaza, the epicenter of the ship that was conceived as a piazza surrounded by dining venues. A round bar is fixed at the heart of the plaza beneath a centerpiece chandelier that reflects natural light during the day and glows a warm orange after sunset. Accented by a terraced lounge, the central bar’s three large screens are crafted in metal, leather, and fabric. Circulation spaces are also designed by the firm with walls adorned with sound-absorbing fabric panels reminiscent of scales. The main dining atrium is outfitted within a triple-height space that connects five restaurants across three levels. A curved white staircase links each level, while a brass pendulum serves as its focal point.
Kelly Hoppen brought her design sense to the ship’s accommodations, using a warm, simple palette that connects to the open water. Infinite verandas allow guests to merge their balcony to the living room, so the space touches the water’s edge.
