Singapore-based architectural practice WOHA has announced the completion of its first Taiwanese project, the Sky Green in Taichung, Taiwan. Commissioned by the Taichung City Government and Feng Chia University, the mixed-use development debuts as part of the Gateway Project Master Plan to promote a greener and more livable city by embodying principles of sustainability, low carbon emissions, and smart cities.
Home to residences, as well as retail and recreation facilities, the project comprises dual towers whose green landscaping stands out as the fundamental material palette. Expansive balconies are embedded with trees in Tower A, while units in Tower B are detailed with a soft, green creeper mesh across the façade. Emphasizing the project’s very object, carefully-curated sky gardens abound every five floors within the block to dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior living.
“We are very happy to have been a part of this collaboration between policymakers, academia and the private sector to design the future of sustainable housing in Taichung,” says Mun Summ Wong, founding director of WOHA. “One building can’t change a city but we hope that Sky Green is the first of many more.”
