Empire Stores has debuted within a transformed 19th-century warehouse in the emerging Tech Triangle of Brooklyn, New York’s DUMBO neighborhood. The 450,000-square-foot waterfront property is home to a contemporary, creative workspace and community hub that mixes retail, dining, and other public amenities.
New York-based firms S9 Architecture and Studio V crafted the LEED Silver-certified space, which houses 380,000 square feet of creative office space across five floors. Retail and dining spaces span 70,000 square feet of the ground floor, while exhibition space totals 3,000 square feet on the second level. The building is also outfitted with an open-air courtyard excavated from within the heart of the four-story masonry structure, lined with glass curtain walls that blend contemporary and historic elements. The rooftop has been transformed into a two-story, 7,000-square-foot public terrace that is appointed with a beer garden and restaurant.
