Wilson Associates has completed work on the 7,534-square-foot MO Bar, a luxe multifunctional lounge concept located within the Mandarin Oriental, Singapore.
“Singapore is a diverse society where individuals from all around the world bring with them Malaysian, Chinese, Indian, and European influences,” says Tiffany Chia, senior designer at Wilson Associates’ Singapore studio. “A majority of the materials used were sourced in Singapore due to the project’s time sensitivity, also presenting an opportunity to further ground the project in Malaysian culture.”
Delivering a striking visual impact is the marble bartop, composed of marble slabs cut and bent to form one piece. The design also features a wave-washed effect that echoes a motif of coastal tribe culture further amplified by elements like symbols of local seamen imprinted upon the ceiling and sliding panel. The influence of Malaysian tribal culture is also reflected with abundant flora embedded into the resin of coffee tabletops and the latticework inspired by nomadic tribal tattoos that adorn the ceiling and screen.
