Amsterdam-based Studio Modijefsky has unveiled its design of the Foodhallen‘s new venue in The Hague, Netherlands. Located within the city’s fancy shopping zone, Haagsche Bluf, the Foodhallen Den Haag is crafted to honor a chaotic forest theme characterized by contrasting architectural styles. Reminiscent of classic European piazzas, the design draws inspiration from seven urban fixtures: landmarks, striking paving, fountains, stairs, merchant stalls, playgrounds, and statues.
Anchored by an internal courtyard, the food courtyard stretches across three adjoining buildings that connect via multiple floors and irregular grid structures. A large main bar faces the entrances, while the opposite side accommodates an intimate cocktail area. Both settings are lined with bronze and red marble, along with terracotta tiles. In addition, a dozen food stalls span the ground floor, which is surrounded by columns that inject a sculptural presence with integrated lighting. Contemporary elements like a brass chandelier above the bar and LED lighting further inject a stark contrast to the landscape. On the other hand, the upper level of the food hall is crafted with a brighter, more organized layout oriented around a fountain bar cut from travertine.
