Restaurant, gaming, and duckpin bowling alley concept the Painted Duck has debuted in the newly opened Stockyards Atlanta development. Crafted by local firm WJG Design, the venue is the latest tenant to join the adaptive reuse project.
A neon duck marks the arrival experience, leading visitors to a graffiti-lined hallway toward a stairwell. The cavernous, subterranean space evokes the qualities of a hunting lodge while also paying homage to the historic structure’s original stone granite and brick. Rustic elements such as fieldstone walls are included around each lane along with concrete pin-lit, whitewashed columns, and a live-edge bar with a stone face and steel overbar. Raw materials contrast modern light fixtures finished in black steel, rose gold, copper, and brass finishes, which hang above brightly colored leather, mohair, and canvas seating.
A live-performance stage is punctuated with a theatrical chandelier that separates the bar and dance floor from the indoor courtyard and gaming area. Artist Todd Murphy crafted the venue’s 50-foot duck mural, a digital composite of hundreds of images from migrating ducks to natural scenery.
