The new Japanese concept Kosushi is set to open next month in the South Pointe section of Miami Beach. Crafted by Brazilian architect Arthur Casas, the new eatery will reflect the influence of Japanese culture, gastronomy, and traditional architecture, while also incorporating Brazilian furniture, finishes, and textiles.
“The idea was to create a restaurant that becomes a reference design-wise, capable of providing not only a meal, but a complete sensorial experience, a synonym of pleasurable moments where people would enjoy coming, staying, and returning,” says Casas. “The restaurant offers spaces with strong visual character and identity. Each material, texture, fabric, and light stimulate different sensations and feelings on the users.”
In addition to the 10-seat sushi bar, the 66-seat restaurant is set against a backdrop conceived to deliver surprises and moments of awe. Inspired by Japanese carpentry, particularly the art of joinery, Kosushi will emphasize a composition of intricate joints without glue or metallic support. The curved sushi bar will contrast the orthogonal lines of the dropped ceiling millwork. Gray tones and concrete textures will complement the light oak millwork, while lighting stored within wooden cubes allows for a gentle illumination for a warm ambiance.
