Chicago-based coffee brand Intelligentsia has unveiled its new café location along Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. Designed by local architecture firm Standard, Intelligentsia Hollywood has an aesthetic reminiscent of Old Hollywood glamour.
Formerly home to the estate of artist Paul de Longpré, the 2,400-square-foot site honors the artwork of its predecessor with abundant floral imagery. The interior’s extensive mosaic tiling along the vaulted ceiling is also installed to mirror an abstract poppy field, while stenciled wall paintings punctuate the outdoor entryway with florals inspired by Delongpre’s artwork as well. An outdoor patio lined with terrazzo benches and flower beds heralds the arrival experience, along with a floral motif adorning the patio’s western wall. Rich in texture, the design evokes a simple sophistication with dark stained wood fixed upon the coffee shop walls, accented by stainless steel, custom bronze fixtures, and fluted mirrors that further enhance the volume of the space. The 30-foot-long coffee bar, also composed of terrazzo, is complemented by seating arranged parallel to the bar akin to a subway car beneath a ceiling grid of steel beams.
