JOI Design has completed work on the refurbishment of Wilde Ente (Wild Duck), the signature dining concept within the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Iserlohn, Germany. The restaurant arrives as the first phase of the hotel’s design overhaul.
Set along the banks of the Seilersee lake, the freestanding building has been redesigned to reflect the ethos of the region along with a few modern industrial touches. The maisonette-style layout spans two stories, which is linked via a self-supported stairway beneath soaring ceilings. The ground floor is home to a bar, alfresco seating, and a small shop, while additional seating on the gallery level stretches to the outdoor terrace to accommodate private events. Distinct areas accommodate a range of needs and moods. In the dining space, rustic timber tables invite guests to linger over a meal, while taller tables near the bar create a more social atmosphere. Outfitted with a contemporary black fireplace, a cozy seating area is featured beneath the stairs.
Venetian pipes and cables are left exposed to strengthen the rustic identity, while steel-framed windows add a dash of industrialism. Natural, restrained finishes span the interior with warm timber tones, flamed black steel, linen textiles, and untreated stone. Ambient lighting from pendants hung at varying heights connects the two levels and brings a dynamic energy to the space.
