The Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC has welcomed the new All-Purpose Pizzeria along the Capitol Riverfront. Locally based firm GrizForm Design took cues from the original design of the 2,500-square-foot storefront as it crafted the laidback yet refreshing atmosphere along the Anacostia River.
The design includes a simple materiality and custom touches such as five-globe pendant fixtures installed throughout the space to create a constellation of light. Beneath low ceilings, deep, comfortable booths line the 102-person dining room atop raised platforms and against the waterfront backdrop. Topped with white stone marble, the bar is flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows that frame harbor views. The interior is also punctuated with a living wall that hosts a variety of seasonal flora that complements the restaurant’s natural palette.
Two separate outdoor spaces accommodate up to 132 diners. Located on street level, one of the patios is linked to the interior and punctuated with high-top tables, while the rooftop patio provides an elevated, festive alternative.
