Townhall restaurant has opened in New Delhi, capturing the spirit of India’s post-independence era during the 1950s. The eatery, which was restored amidst the bustling Khan Market, honors India’s colonial heritage with designs from locally based DCA Group.
The industrial hanging lights augment the colonial aesthetic, and the old fanlights were restored to establish a visual connection to the terrace above while allowing ample natural light in the hall. The space’s original doors and windows have each been refurbished and reinstalled for added authenticity. A variety of seating options span the interior including comfortable leather armchairs, wooden dining room seats, and formal upholstered chairs in the private dining room.
The restaurant is also outfitted with a rooftop terrace complete with an open seating plan and semi-open kitchen replacing a former service room. Each table is illuminated with an adjustable lamp, while foliage provides visual relief from the warm palette.
