Owner Charlie Mayo recently opened Cuzin’s Clam Bar in Marlboro, New Jersey, enlisting local restaurant designer Raymond Haldeman to craft an industrial chic look with earthy finishes.
Haldeman’s unique elements include a pinwheel banquette with three-sided radiated random plank wood tables specifically designed for the space. A 12-by-12-foot custom chandelier hangs overhead, mirroring the shape of the banquette, while 800 linear feet of track was laid over the cherry-stained wood ceiling grid, from which 180 antique filament LED bulbs are suspended at seemingly random heights.
The hallway leading to the kitchen and restrooms draws inspiration from an oak and iron wine barrel, and other finishes include river rock, steel plates accented with shipbuilding rivets, reclaimed barnwood, distressed brick, and a custom honed-quartz bartop.
An outdoor bar features a retractable pergola rood that becomes part of the restaurant when the bifold bar-height windows are opened, combining the two spaces.
