SG Blocks, a Brooklyn-based designer and fabricator of container-based structures, has unveiled the world’s first container-based Taco Bell location in South Gate, California. The newly opened restaurant comprises five modules and 1,080 square feet and was previously a pop-up during the 2015 South by Southwest Conference & Festivals in Austin.
The project emphasizes Taco Bell’s green values and sustainable initiatives. The eatery is overseen by Alvarado Restaurant Group, which owns 110 Taco Bell locations in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Wisconsin.
SG Blocks has also been commissioned to design a six-unit container-based office building for the U.S. Navy, spanning two stories and 2,000 square feet. In addition, the company will begin drafting a recycling center in California.
