Locally based firm Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects will lead the renovation of a long-vacant 1920s-era West Hollywood structure. The overhaul will see the triangular volume on the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Doheny Drive transformed into a small-scale hotel and restaurant. The redesign is set to kick off before the end of this year.
Six guestrooms will be created in place of four existing apartments, while a lobby, takeaway café, and 2,285-square-foot restaurant will be installed on the floor below. The 5,250-square-foot volume will be equipped with small outdoor terraces on its second floor as well as a 500-square-foot rooftop concept.
Taylor Megdal of locally based development company Megdal and Associates has likened the redesign to that of the Hotel Covell, which is located nearby, and is planning to get the building named a historic resource—a designation that will allow the developer to receive renovation incentives under the state’s Mills Act.
