The W San Francisco will debut its new guestroom renovations, courtesy of Portland, Oregon-based Skylab Architecture, in 2019. Inspired by the California Gold Rush, the redo draws upon themes influenced by the city’s cultural landmarks as well as its infamous fog.
Located in the city’s SoMa neighborhood, the 404 guestrooms will boast gold elements woven throughout. Chiseled, beveled patterns and textures and metallic hints will inject an opulent sparkle into each accommodation. Solid surfaces will further amplify a theme of strength and durability, while soft surfaces will be stitched and folded for comfort. Carpeting will recall the city grid with gold flakes and thread mirroring the crossing lines of San Francisco’s cable car tracks, while surrounding walls will accent the design with a gradient interpretation of fog with subtle gold dust in the wallpaper. Also detailed with gold flakes, bathroom tiles will reflect the unique topography of the city.
