The Ventana Big Sur in California has reopened along the Pacific coastline as the maiden North American property from Alila Hotels and Resorts, part of Two Roads Hospitality. Following its closure in February 2017 in response to heavy rainfall and mudslides, the resort has returned with updates to each of its 59 guestrooms and suites along with new amenities following a refresh from San Francisco-based BraytonHughes Design Studios.
Rooms boast private balconies or patios that embraces views of the sea or the mountains. Select suites include outdoor hot tubs and rain showers. A new rustic design is informed by the surrounding coastal landscape, and features leather and wood furnishings. Opulent soaking tubs and intimate fireplaces further amplify a sense of luxury.
Serving as the nucleus of the property, the Social House is home to three lifestyle spaces. The 1960s-inspired Library & Music room invites visitors to unwind by a stone fireplace and indulge in the onsite music and literary collection, while the convivial Game Room is appointed with a pool table, game tables, and board games. The Bar Room is anchored by a communal table that serves as the focal point of the intimate lounge. The elegant and rustic Sur House restaurant boasts an expansive outdoor terrace and bar.
The resort’s 12,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor space includes the new 7,000-square-foot Ocean Meadow Lawn, which accommodates up to 200 guests. Opening this month, the Glass House Gallery will be set upon a cliff within a steel shipping container overlooking the coast. The Ventana Big Sur is also home to Redwood Canyon glamping sites. Fifteen, safari-style canvas tents span the 20-acre canyon along with a new Bath House clad with teak-enclosed showers lined with subway tiles, heated floors, and granite vanities.
