MCR and MORSE Development have revealed the highly anticipated model guestroom for the TWA Hotel at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. Part of the ongoing promotional campaign for the forthcoming hotel, the guestroom is designed by local architecture firm Stonehill Taylor. Characterized by warm wood elements and brushed brass, the design draws inspiration from the height of Jet Age excitement in 1962.
“We envisioned a refined guest experience in dialogue with Saarinen’s masterpiece, a serene refuge from which to enjoy views onto one of the busiest airports in the world” says Stonehill Taylor principal Michael Suomi. “Ultimately we wanted the TWA room to help create the level of excitement for and pride in aviation that travelers once felt during the rise of the industry.”
Slated to open in spring 2019, the TWA Hotel will feature 512 ultra-quiet guestrooms adorned with a midcentury aesthetic that pays homage to Eero Saarinen’s iconic TWA Flight Center design. Vintage details like Knoll furniture, martini bars, rotary phones, and terrazzo-tiled bathrooms will further perpetuate the theme. Saarinen’s Flight Center will also be restored onsite.
