Three new luxury suites have debuted aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient Express courtesy of Wimberly Interiors. Appointed with ornate detailing, the new Paris, Venice, and Istanbul suites are crafted to recall the golden age of travel.
Elements such as hand-beaded embroidery adorn each suite alongside lavish fabrics that reflect the character of each city. Bespoke details are installed as well to more authentically channel the décor of the Roaring Twenties.
“It was extremely important when developing the design concept that we embraced the unique story and history of the brand. To capture the epitome of classic luxury travel that the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express exudes,” says Rachel Johnson, vice president and London studio director for Wimberly Interiors. “We focused on moments within each city, inspiring visual cues and the overall Belmond guest experience. It was an exciting challenge to use this inspiration to recreate the essence of Art Deco glamour in a graceful and timeless design.”
The romance of Paris is conveyed with an Art Deco style accentuated in a light and crisp palette. Elegant furnishings, luxe fabrics, and crystal furnishings are installed as well to capture the city’s haute coutrure and gastronomic excellence. Damask silks, bespoke glass chandeliers, and hues of blue and silver celebrate the craftsmanship that defines Venice, while also recalling its presence in the Baroque and Renaissance eras. Additional decorative elements such as Venetian mirrors and an antique tapestry sourced from Venice further evoke the Italian locale. The Istanbul suite draws influence from the Topkai Palace, as well as traditional Ottoman design and the city’s famed Grand Bazaar. Details like hand-carved timber and marquetry panel borders are accented with Mother of Pearl, while embossed leather and exaggerated metal elements reflect the unique heritage of Istanbul.
