The Phoenician Scottsdale, a Luxury Collection Resort in Arizona has revealed its update from Sudbury, Massachusetts-based Parker-Torres Design. The renovation includes an upgrade to the onsite lobby, spa, and two onsite F&B concepts—Afternoon Tea and Thirsty Camel—with an emphasis on local flora, fauna, and other natural elements highlighted in the surrounding environment.
“The line between the resort’s architecture and the mountain face is purposely blurred, mutually elevating the presence of both,” says Parker-Torres Design cofounder Barbara Parker. “We capitalized on nature’s beauty by eliminating any obstructions to the magnificent view of the valley in the lobby, essentially bringing the outside in.”
A desert-inspired palette adorns the interior with burnt sienna reminiscent of the Precambrian granite of the Camelback Mountain, while vibrant green tones recall the Saguaro cacti. Overlooking Paradise Valley, the hotel bar is the centerpiece of the lobby, while a custom chandelier above the concierge desk is inspired by the seed pods of an agave plant. The design also illuminates weathered textures such as rattlesnake details in the carpeting.
The onsite spa draws inspiration from the hotel’s namesake, emphasizing rebirth with elements including grass- and branch-like pedestal light fixtures representative of a phoenix’s nest. Spread across 30,000 square feet, the spa is outfitted with 24 treatment rooms, a nail salon, hydropool, sauna, steam room, VIP room, and 1,500 square feet of retail. The large pooldeck has also been enhanced.
