The Top of the South Island in New Zealand has welcomed the new Marlborough Lodge, located in the wine country’s Marlborough region and covering 16 acres of sprawling parkland gardens. Auckland, New Zealand-based designer Peter Lloyd spearheaded the design, transforming the former Sisters of Mercy convent in Blenheim into the 10-room lodge, which is part two of a four-phase refresh of the hospitality concept.
Retaining the original character of the building, the restoration evokes an inviting warmth with an emphasis on minimalism and contemporary style. Existing elements like the handcarved Kauri wood staircase, original wooden doors and paneling, and glass panes honor the heritage of the site, while a soft color and material palette complements locally sourced artwork. Each room is appointed with a unique configuration and lighting design, as well as soft, warm colors.
Amenities include the Harvest Restaurant, the signature onsite eatery, and access to extensive natural offerings. A freestanding spa is also in the works for phase three of the design.
