Joie de Vivre’s Talbott Hotel in Chicago is set for a May reopening following a four-month refresh from locally based interior architecture office Kara Mann. It will be the most extensive update to the 90-year-old property since its opening. Originally designed by John Archibald Armstrong, the Talbott Hotel juxtaposes a European-inspired classic façade with modern amenities.
The redesign will introduce a neutral palette across fabrics and other materials including plaster, milk-painted wood panels, and terrazzo throughout the ground floor’s public spaces. Contemporary artwork delivers a balance to the traditional wood paneling spanning the walls. A reception desk is made of noble gray and Nero Marquina-veined stone, while the F&B concept 20 East—located just off the lobby—offers a laidback retreat.
Guestrooms will blend modern and traditional elements with eclectically curated furniture and lighting along with a crisp neutral palette, textured wallcoverings, sheer white drapes, and an ink-colored carpet. The total number of guestrooms keys has increased from 149 to 178.
