Brooklyn-based design studio Studio Tack has completed its design of the Sandman, a new Santa Rosa, California hotel reminiscent of midcentury motor lodges. The new 135-room concept, housed in a former motel, also pays homage to the Golden State’s heritage of Spanish Mission Revival architecture.
Classic midcentury furniture populates the hotel, including vintage chrome and leather Deco club seating in the double-height lobby. Warmth permeates across the space with locally sourced ash wood and rose-tinted mirrors beneath the coffered ceilings, which are inlaid with four-foot mirrored squares. Vintage, coastal-inspired details abound in each guestroom. Custom quilts are installed in place of traditional headboards against a backdrop of earthy tones accented with notes of peach and navy. Traditional bedside reading lamps are swapped in place of modern, solid brass sconces, while select accommodations are endowed with a marble-topped café table.
The indoor-outdoor Pool House & Bar sits beside the hotel pool and terrace with glazed panels that slide upward to organically link the bar to the pool deck. Blue palm-patterned wallpaper and matching upholstery give a splash of color across the casual environment.
