Shou Sugi Ban House is set to debut in Southampton, New York this May, as the first destination spa retreat of its kind in the popular coastal destination. Located adjacent to the Parrish Art Museum, Shou Sugi Ban house will comprise three acres and 13 guest studios—all of which are designed by local architect Debbie Kropf as well as an all-female design team.
Each 400-square-foot guest studio will be oriented around a main pool and clad with floor-to-ceiling windows that illuminate the clean aesthetic with natural light. Locally crafted Kobe-style beds are made of white oak, while chairs made from recycled wood complement the monochromatic color palette of stone and biscuit tones. Gas fireplaces are also featured in each unit adjacent to the tokonomas, or elevated alcoves common in many Japanese residences. All studios are endowed with private garden patios and bathrooms that feature a Japanese soaking tub.
In addition to five treatment rooms, the standalone spa comprises a thermal suite equipped with an infrared sauna experience. Massage rooms, pools, chromotherapy showers, solarium deck, and an indoor-outdoor relaxation lounge are also housed within the wellness sanctuary.
