Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has further expanded its portfolio with the arrival of the Shangri-La Hotel, Xiamen along the Taiwan Strait in China. The resort property boasts access to urban offerings as well as the beachfront, and is crowned with the Horizon Club’s open-air terrace, which frames panoramic views. The design was executed by NA KA JI MA in collaboration with Hong Kong-based Chhada Siembieda and Associates, which oversaw interiors.
Guests are welcomed in the lobby by two restaurants and a lounge. The all-day concept Café Amoy is crafted with bold, geometric architectural details, large windows, and green and orange color accents, while the onsite Chinese concept Fu Gong pays homage to the region’s seaport history with blue partitions modeled after shipping containers and glass wall installations. Also outfitted with an outdoor deck, the lobby lounge’s staggering ceilings are anchored by a gray, gold, and aqua palette. Rooms range from the 450-square-foot Deluxe Sea View room to the 1,808-square-foot Shangri-La suite with more than 70 percent of the property’s 325 guestrooms and suites overlooking the water.
The 32,300-square-foot NX Fitness & Spa center is home to an indoor heated pool, gym, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and treatment rooms. The NX Kid’s Club is expected to open before the end of 2017 with a playground, ball pool, trampoline, and climbing wall. Additional spaces include the pillar-free, 16,150-square-foot grand ballroom that is outfitted with 26-foot-high.
