Located on the banks of Switzerland’s Lake Zurich, La Réserve Eden au Lac has reopened following a two-year overhaul led by French designer Philippe Starck.
The revived French Empire–style structure retains numerous original features, including the lobby’s wood staircase and iron elevator. A glass enclosure now wraps the elevator, as part of the redesign’s efforts to juxtapose old and new. Stained glass windows crafted by artist—and Philippe Starck’s daughter—Ara Starck also depict landscapes that evolve throughout the day as natural lighting changes.
On the ground floor, the Eden Kitchen & Bar is anchored by an open kitchen and large bay windows that overlook the lake, while La Muña on the sixth floor provides a Peruvian-Japanese alternative. A rooftop terrace is slated to open this spring.
Nearly all 40 rooms boast lake views, and many feature balconies and terraces. The newly revamped yacht-like interiors draw inspiration from the waterfront setting, and feature Starck signatures like neutral tones and sleek metal accents. Historic details like original exposed red brick, marble, and hardwood floors are also showcased throughout the property.
