The Marlborough Lodge in Blenheim, New Zealand has completed the third stage of its four-stage renovation. The latest enhancements to the luxury resort include a standalone spa accompanied by an entertainment area appointed with a bar, wine shack, and retail. Angela Dillon, the Marlborough Lodge’s co-owner and managing director spearheaded the redesign, drawing inspiration from the various textures and colors that decorate the main lodge.
The lodge’s onsite chapel from 1913 was transformed into the small spa and entertainment venue. Spread across more than 180 square feet, the spa is crafted as a natural extension of the main lodge with organic tones combined with original Rimu wood and exposed kauri wood beams from the chapel. Auckland, New Zealand-based designer Peter Lloyd helped execute the chapel redesign, adorning interiors with a new palette and furnishings, while elements like high ceilings and stained glass were all preserved. An intimate and private en-suite space is outfitted with heated floors and a heated towel rack, while additional rooms are adorned with marble signage, hymn book holders, and collection plates upcycled from the chapel.
The bar and retail branch also features a sunny outdoor area appointed with an outdoor fireplace. Retail is crafted with a variety of textures and finishes to match the main house’s emphasis on comfort and zeal.
