New England-based hotel management and development company Lark Hotels has transformed the iconic Surf Hotel into the Block Island Beach House, which is now the largest hotel in the company’s lineup. Housed within an 1873 Victorian cottage, its recent renovation was led by the Massachusetts-based design firm Elder & Ash.
Each of the 31 guestrooms feature hand-turned wooden poster beds and vintage rugs that adorn the original hardwood floors. Black and ivory textiles reinterpret the surf shack charm in a contemporary manner and Polaroid prints by artist She Hit Pause populate guestroom walls. One-of-a-kind antique items juxtapose modern accents and vintage surfboards from the 1960s and ’70s throughout the hotel.
