Dallas-based interior design practice waldrop+nichols studio has completed the $8 million renovation of the LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort in Naples, Florida. Home to six acres of beachfront, the revitalized resort features a redesign heavily informed by its surroundings.
“LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort showcases a quiet temperament of relaxed luxury,” says waldrop+nichols vice president Andrea Waldrop. “The design responds to the resort’s natural charm, stunning ocean views and an easy-going attitude with pared-back, yet elegant natural materials, and a sophistication that offers guests a calming and subtle environment connected to nature.”
Exuding a coastal elegance, the lobby initiates visitors into the setting with a design that honors the diverse ecosystems of southern Florida. Custom artwork showcases hibiscus flowers and monstera leaves in plaster. Materials like terrazzo, cerused oak, and wicker mix naturally with custom chandeliers, painted console tables, sculptural floor lamps, and Italian area rugs. Guestrooms in the resort’s Gulf Tower have been upgraded with private balconies, oversized patterned rugs, four-post beds with Floridian textiles, and custom artwork.
The signature eatery, Baleen, reflects a tropical influence with the use of wicker, natural shell stone, and cerused oak paneling across the light and airy interior. Crafted by Barcelona-based artist Sophie-Elizabeth Thompson, a four-foot-wide sculpture reminiscent of whale bone anchors the space.
