Following the $75 million renovation of Omaha’s historic Blackstone Hotel, the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel debuts today in the city’s reemerging Blackstone District. Locally based firms Leo A Daly and DLR Group collaborated on the project, which serves as part of the neighborhood’s overall renaissance.
The property has been named an Omaha Landmark and an entry on the National Register of Historic Places since the 1980s, so it was important for the design teams to preserve the integrity of many of the structure’s original elements. This included restoring handcarved terracotta columns, a marble staircase, tile flooring, and more than 800 windows. These historic details are juxtaposed with contemporary furnishings, amenities, and an art collection showcasing work by Nebraska artists.
Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel features five F&B options, including café concept Petit Orleans, the cozy Committee Chophouse, the Pool Club, and the speakeasy-style Cottonwood Room, which is anchored by a circular bar and a faux cottonwood tree at the heart of the interior. The hotel reopening also marks the return of the French-inspired Orleans Room, one of the city’s former premier eateries. Additional amenities include rooftop terraces and 13,500 square feet of meeting and event spaces that comprise two palatial ballrooms.
Each of the hotel’s 205 accommodations, which includes 31 suites, draw inspiration from the calm and reflective lawns of the original Blackstone property. Serene finishes and a warm color palette accentuate classic European Revival details across each sundrenched chamber.
