Hoshinio Resorts will reopen KAI Alps, the hot spring ryokan concept in northern Nagano, which is slated to make its return to the Japanese Alps this December following extensive renovations from Naoki Iwata. The grand reopening will introduce 48 guestrooms spread across two buildings inspired by the aesthetic of the hot springs in Japan’s Shinshu/Hakuba countryside with classical Japanese architectural elements.
Locally informed elements will be integrated into guestroom designs such as kotatsu living room tables. Certain accommodations will feature private outdoor baths or lofts. Additional amenities will include the authentic, sunken hearth bar outfitted with a fireplace, indoor-outdoor hot spring baths and a courtyard appointed with cherry blossoms.
Accessible via shuttle, KAI Alps will also provide a private guest lounge for visitors at the Hakuba Goryu Snow Resort.
