InterContinental Hotel Group has announced the opening of the InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort on the southernmost tip of the Raa Atoll, Maldives. The luxury retreat is designed by Singapore-based architecture firm Eco-ID to impact the local environment minimally, while embracing it as a sumptuous backdrop.
Included among the resort’s 81 accommodations are beach, lagoon, and overwater villas and residences, all reflecting a locally inspired contemporary aesthetic executed by Avalon Collective Interior Design Studio.
The two-story lagoon villas offer both beach and lagoon access, as well as the private infinity pools and jacuzzis. Overwater villas are equipped with expansive outdoor decks, while beach villas afford visitors direct access to the coastline.
Spanning over six overwater villas, property’s signature AVI Spa houses steam rooms, ice fountains, a yoga pavilion, and fitness center. As for the F&B, the luxury resort offers six distinct options: The adults-only enclave, Retreat, boasts a private bar and an infinity pool, while the Lighthouse frames panoramic views of the Indian ocean, as does the aptly named Sunset Bar. More casual venues of the retreat are the Collective, Fish Market, and the sustainable Café Umi.
