The Hotel at the University of Maryland has arrived in College Park, Maryland with 297 guestrooms and 43,000 square feet of meeting space spread across 10 stories. The launch of the hotel is part of the university’s and local officials’ efforts to remodel the area into one of the top 20 college towns in the country by 2020. Standard guestrooms average 450 square feet, the largest in the town.
The hotel is home to a 150-seat lobby bar and four restaurants, including the Old Maryland Grill. The coastal Greek concept Kapnos Taverna created b Mike Isabella is set to open later this month. Ten event spaces are also onsite, named for noble figures in the state’s and university’s history from Harriet Tubman to Jim Henson. The 10th-floor penthouse event space offers expansive views as a backdrop for a variety of functions.
Additional amenities include a fitness center, pool, and open-air Zen garden terrace on the fourth floor. A 5,200-square-foot Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa is scheduled to open in January 2018 adjacent to the terrace.
