San Francisco’s Hotel Kabuki has announced that it will reveal its $28 million renovation this fall. Spearheaded by Brooklyn-based firm Mark Zeff Design, the facelift will debut its first phase in September and its final phase in November.
Lined with custom, handtufted wool carpeting sourced from Thailand, the new reception space will greet guests with a clean, Japanese-style timber desk clad with a live wood edge and contrasting butterfly key inlays. Backlit vintage factory window walls will serve as the backdrop, while a map mural adorns the ceiling. An industrial aesthetic will characterize the space with roughly hewn Douglas fir beams, vintage factory-paned windows, and salvaged industry pendant lights. Natural elements will reinforce the outdoors with details like flame-treated Shou-sugi-ban wood. The lobby lounge will feature a library, while the adjacent bar will be illuminated with vintage Czech factory pendants and anchored by a communal table.
Accommodations will be revamped with a Scandinavian sensibility, while also embracing the city’s bohemian spirt and the surrounding neighborhood’s Japanese elements. Custom lighting and stitched leather furniture will be installed alongside curated artwork. Modern bathrooms will come equipped with custom, ebonized timber vanities installed against large floor-to-ceiling porcelain tiles and contemporary fixtures. Other details will include handworked finishes and gray wall accents.
Other amenities include the 3,000-square-foot fitness center, which will house a 400-square-foot yoga studio, and zealous access to the Japan Center Mall, Sundance Kabuki Movie Theaters, and Kabuki Springs & Spa.
