HOK has revealed renderings of its design for the forthcoming St. Regis Belgrade hotel. Slated for arrival in late 2020, the hotel will occupy the first nine floors of the 40-story Kula Belgrade—the signature volume in the mixed-use Belgrade Waterfront development.
“As a result of its strategic location at the convergence of the Sava and Danube Rivers, Belgrade has always been a place where worlds collide,” says Julia Monk, HOK’s director of hospitality interior design. “It’s a place where East meets West and ancient history joins the contemporary age. We drew design inspiration from this dynamic tension to weave together a sense of community with historic cultural jewels and new architectural landmarks.”
Guests will arrive via the Long Gallery, which will recall the confluence of two rivers. The striking space will include curated artwork, embossed metal finishes, and elegant furniture. Beyond the Long Gallery, the salon, patisserie, and the intimate library will celebrate the coffee culture of the city. The St. Regis Bar will boast a grand fireplace and sculptural bar, while handcrafted, bespoke textile artwork will adorn the walls to highlight the story of Belgrade’s rebirth in abstract and modern styles. The 80-seat Highland Dining Room will revel in ultramodernism and rustic interior elements that resemble traditional Serbian highlands vernacular architecture. The adjacent, outdoor plaza will host the onsite conservatory, while the second floor will be home to the fitness center and Iridium Spa.
The curvature of the nearby rivers will be reflected in the lines of the custom guestroom décor. All 119 accommodations will reference the traditional weaving patterns of Serbian textiles, while also conveying a refined levity with its color and material palettes. Inspired by Serbian modernist painter Milena Pavlović Barili, the presidential suite evokes artful sophistication across 2,150 square feet.
