Phase one of the development of the Westside Park at Bellwood Quarry in Atlanta has celebrated its groundbreaking. Upon completion, the greenspace will stretch a full 100 acres larger than the city’s Piedmont Park and repurpose an old quarry pit into a two billion-gallon reservoir of emergency drinking water. The first phase is forecasted for completion next year.
Led by locally based architecture firm John Portman & Associates, the first phase of the project will include a signature gateway entrance on the north side of the park. The next phase will see an overlook that will become the tallest structure in the park, rising 50 feet above the existing 950-foot elevation.
