GM Architects has been tapped to design the new Jumeirah Al Sahel Resort & Spa in collaboration with DSA Architects. The 5-Star property will open near Manama along the Bahraini coast in late 2019 with a series of island bungalows located near the banks of the water.
The lobby will welcome visitors with framed views of the sea as well as a lighting installation suspended above a seating area. Large bookshelves and mirrors will punctuate the space. The surrounding city will serve as a key influence on the design, with spaces reflective of the streetscape with details including latticework and the use of locally sourced materials.
The light-filled interiors of the ballroom will draw inspiration from a wind tower with high, naturally illuminated ceilings adorned with geometric carvings, while the hotel bar will be reminiscent of a boat with wooden ceilings and hanging lamps akin to ropes and pulleys. The onsite Lebanese restaurant will embody a nautical theme with fixtures, including hanging glass lamps that call to mind buoys and tropical fish. The spa will promote relaxation and harmony with luminous white lights and marble interiors.
