CitizenM has expanded its footprint in the Big Apple with the launch of the new citizenM New York Bowery. The brand’s latest New York outpost since the citizenM Times Square in 2014, the 300-room hotel positions the hotel to meet its rollout of 40 international properties by 2020.
The streamlined, luxury concept is designed by Amsterdam-based firm and longtime citizenM collaborator Concrete. Ascending nearly 250 feet, the hotel is among the tallest volumes in its Lower Manhattan neighborhood, punctuating its surroundings with a 5,000-square-foot wall mural from artist Jonathan “Meres One” Cohen. Guests are greeted by a tree-lined public plaza complete with benches and picnic tables. Automated check-in/check-out kiosks will provide guests with their keys before they embark down a spiral staircase to the lower living room area, which is defined by double-height ceilings, bookshelves, and the signature 24-hour canteenM bar. Glass walls flood the interior with natural light and maintain a visual connection with the outdoor plaza.
The entirety of the 21-story stairwell is adorned with artwork from 20 artists in order to create the Museum of Street Art within the hotel—the largest public project ever commissioned by artists of the city’s prestigious 5 Pointz street art collective since 2013. The influence of the neighborhood is also reflected inside, with an eclectic mix of decor and furniture evocative of the area’s vibrant and varied cultural heritage. All guestrooms are endowed with extra large king beds as well as technology that enables visitors to control everything from the blinds to the TV with an iPad. Finally, crowning the hotel, the expansive cloudM rooftop bar and outdoor terrace embraces a backdrop of 360-degree views of the city.
