Canopy by Hilton has launched its first location in Pennsylvania: Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia Center City in East Market. The 236-room hotel occupies the city’s historic Stephen Girard Building, which was restored by local firm BLT Architects. New York-based AvroKO crafted the hotel’s interiors to accentuates the landmark’s original Beaux-Arts features through a contemporary lens.
The interior design draws inspiration from Philadelphia’s vibrant cultural legacy with bold colors and patterns that recall the city’s lineage in early hip-hop, as well as a range of murals by local artists. Millwork serves as a key focal point throughout the hotel, while reimagined plasterwork, rosettes, columns, and detailing reinforce a modern ethos and a sense of grandeur.
Located on the first floor, the Wayward restaurant has also opened—currently operating at a limited capacity in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Additional amenities include a 24-hour fitness center, a retail concept showcasing locally sourced goods, and nearly 3,600 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space.
