Milan-based designer Patricia Urquiola is leading the transformation of a former ecclesiastical compound into a new luxury hotel. Ca’ di Dio, the forthcoming 66-key property in Venice, will be the latest entry into the VOIhotels portfolio.
Conceived as an oasis of timeless beauty and Italian hospitality, Urquiola’s goal was to a distinct, original concept that calls to mind “a Venetian ‘mansion,’ deeply linked to the history of the city with fine woods, rich textiles, colors, finishes, and Murano glass,” she explains.
Dating back to the late 13th century, the site of Ca’ di Dio overlooks the River Ca’ di Dio, as well as the Venetian Arsenale and nearby gardens. Three internal courtyards will be home to Pax Bar and two restaurants, which merge Venetian tradition with Urquiola’s contemporary vernacular. In addition to an elegant boutique and reading room, all 57 suites and nine deluxe rooms will be spread across three floors. The hotel’s public spaces and chambers will capture a sense of place through thoughtful furnishings and distinctive details. “Each decorative, architectural, and lighting element is the result of the skillful hands of craftsmen, who combine the passion for their work with the secrets and techniques of Venetian tradition,” Urquiola adds.
