Following a multimillion-dollar renovation from Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based ID & Design, the boutique hotel concept B on Canal has opened in the central business and theater district of the Big Easy. Housed within a 1930s-era, 15-story building, Canal on B is crafted in homage to the city’s heritage.
The lobby recalls a reimagined French boutique, complete with built-in Roman arches and gold-brushed elevator doors clad with gold medallions. Custom black and white marble floors sit beneath a chandelier and additional chrome and crystal light fixtures. A palette of rich purple and gray complement velvet textures and baroque patterns, while black and white illustrations line the walls of hallways and other public spaces to honor the Renaissance period. Moreover, Mardi Gras masks adorn the walls and hallways to reflect the influence of New Orleans culture. The hotel also features casual eatery Madam’s Modern Kitchen + Bar, which evokes the spirit of a bygone era.
Ranging in size from 230 to 860 square feet, each of the 155 guestrooms and suites promotes comfort and elegance. Included among the hotel’s 1,750 square feet of event space are the ballroom and meeting rooms, which are designed with rich drapery and buffet cabinets topped with granite and illuminated by midcentury-style wall sconces.
