Retro Hospitality has announced plans to open the Blackburn Inn in downtown Staunton, Virginia in the spring 2018. The 49-room boutique concept will be housed within a historic, Jeffersonian-style structure originally crafted by master builder Thomas Blackburn in 1828.
Project architect Bruce Shirley of Apex Design will collaborate with Virginia-based A Concept 2 Design in restoring the space while maintaining its historical architecture. A neutral palette and textural layers of fabrics and finishes will characterize the interior along with original heart pine floors, an antique-style drafting table at reception, and Thomas Blackburn-inspired artwork. Architectural elements such as wide corridors, hallway arches, vaulted ceilings, and an original wooden staircase leading to the roof atrium will be preserved for authenticity, while numerous alcoves will be installed within the grand hallways. A 16-seat, indoor-outdoor bistro and bar will also debut onsite, outfitted with an outdoor terrace and columned front porch.
Appointed with a contemporary flair, all rooms will feature intricate, centuries-old molding and oversized bathrooms equipped with barn-style glass doors and rain showers. Four of the hotel’s premiere-level rooms will boast luxurious soaking tubs.
